Anita Haigh, MA, BSc (Hons), PGCE, Dip OCR (SpLD), SpLD APC

Course tutor

Anita is a tutor on the Level 7 Diploma course in teaching and assessing learners with dyslexia and SpLDs and a specialist assessor for Helen Arkell. She first became associated with the charity as a student, successfully gaining both Level 5 and Level 7 qualifications. She has over 30 years’ experience in the field of education, teaching across all phases and in special education settings. She has been involved with initial teacher training programmes as a mentor, and has served as a local authority education advisor, supporting teachers in their roles. Most recently, she has worked as an interventions teacher at a local primary school, supporting children with specific learning difficulties.

In addition to her current work with Helen Arkell, Anita works independently as a specialist teacher and assessor with individual learners in both primary and secondary phases.

Anita’s decision to train as a teacher arose from her own first-hand experience of the impact that a good teacher can have on self-esteem and academic success. She is committed to ensuring that all learners have the opportunity to develop their talents and abilities to the full, and recognises the need to understand the challenges they face in order to provide the most effective support.

Anita is delighted to be part of the HADC team and to support its vital work in helping to remove barriers to learning and to open up life opportunities.
