An EHCP, or Education, Health and Care Plan, is a plan for children and young people up to the age of 25 who need more support than is usually available through special needs education. Some learners with dyslexia have an EHCP and others are supported in school with an IEP (Individual Education Plan).
Rachael will demystify the issues surrounding this hot topic for parents and for education professionals.
The talk will cover:
- EHCP v IEPs – what is the difference
- Gathering the right evidence
- What to look for in an educational setting
- SENDIST appeals – what to expect
Rachael Allison, of Boyes Turner LLP, has a particular interest in dyslexia/SpLD having supported many families and young people through the EHCP process. Rachael’s experience extends to assisting parents at all stages of the SEN process, including pre ECHP provision and support, refusal to assess or issue a Plan, review of draft ECHPs, Annual Reviews and failure to deliver on the contents of Plans. Rachael also undertakes advocacy at appeals and representation at Annual Reviews.
She has particular experience with dyslexia/dyspraxia/ASD/ADHD and sensory processing needs with strong links to local specialist schools and support groups. Rachael’s past experience within the personal injury/clinical negligence fields assists with the identifications of those cases that could benefit from SEN support.
Rachael is a member of the Law Society and the Education Law Association (ELAS), and also a school Governor. She also gives regular talks on SEN law to both parent and professional groups, and has been published nationally on SEN issues as well as being asked for comment on BBC radio.
