Description
Knowing all the sounds that the letters of the alphabet make is a key skill and underpins the ability to read and to spell phonically regular words, words that are spelt as they sound. The links between these letters and their corresponding sounds need to be automatic. A child should be able to say with ease the sound that a given letter makes. Equally important is to be able to write the letters automatically in response to the sounds.
When these letter sound links are secure, and the sounds can be given for every letter, the reading and spelling of phonically regular words should become more accurate and less effortful.
Helen Arkell’s Letter Sound Link Cards packs contain 26 cards (one for each letter of the alphabet). For each card, on one side is a lower case letter written in dark grey and in a dyslexia-friendly font, and on the other side is an image of an object/animal that begins with that letter, the images are designed to be colourful, interesting, and to appeal to children.
