Specialist tuition and
study skills tuition

We can arrange specialist tuition for learners with dyslexia.
Why choose a Helen Arkell specialist teacher?
Helen Arkell Specialist Teachers are specially trained in teaching learners with specific learning difficulties. They undertake regular continuing professional development (CPD) and have the support of the senior professional staff at Helen Arkell. Each of our Specialist Teachers has a current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Our Specialist Teachers understand that each pupil is different. Using your child’s strengths and their approach to learning, they will create an individual, multi-sensory learning programme to support your child’s areas of need.
Study Skills Tuition will help a young person to develop strategies in areas of learning they find difficult and support them to do the best they can at school and in their exams.
Where?
Tuition usually takes place at the Specialist Teacher’s home or at the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity in Farnham. It may be possible to arrange directly with the Specialist Teacher for sessions to take place in your home or online.
Many schools welcome Helen Arkell Specialist Teachers and tuition takes place at school. This must be arranged with the school by parents.
Bursaries
From time to time, and subject to available funding, we are able to consider bursary applications from individuals who meet certain criteria.
Please provide the required financial information when completing a ‘make a booking enquiry’ form for the chosen service
We will be open for bursary applications from Friday 13th March until Friday 17th April.
Due to limited funds, please note that during this round of bursary applications, certain restrictions apply and we will be unable to consider requests for bursary supported assessments where:
• The same household has already received bursary support for a previous assessment within the last 12 months
• Multiple applications for siblings are submitted at the same time; only the first application which is ready to proceed will be considered for bursary support
• The child/young person has an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP), as their individual needs will be under regular review by appropriate professionals
These restrictions are so that we can extend our support to as many families as possible.
I no longer need the help of the Helen Arkell Centre. However, it has made all the difference to my son’s life. As a result, he is on track to get the equivalent of a first at one of the world’s top universities. He plans to do a Masters in Linguistics and finance himself by teaching English as a foreign language. Not bad, but only done with JH’s and your help.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you organisation for the support you have given over the years. It has been very impressive. In particular, I would ask you to pass my heartfelt thanks on to JH who has been a lovely tutor and friend to my daughter over the last few years.
My son had a Helen Arkell tutor. Not only were her teaching skills excellent but she provided me with support in battling the system for which he and I are forever thankful.
