This session is suitable for professionals, support staff, and parents/carers wanting to find out more about the signs and symptoms of Developmental Coordination Disorder (also known as DCD or Dyspraxia) and its impact upon day-to-day life. You will learn how to recognise and support the different presentations of DCD/Dyspraxia and importantly, what can be easily implemented to support people to access their learning and meaningful activities of daily living.
- Understand the diagnostic criteria for developmental coordination disorder, also known as DCD and Dyspraxia.
- To recognise signs and symptoms of potential DCD
- To knowledgeably undertake a simple screening assessment with a child/person to help decide if further formal support is warranted.
- To gain signposting to a range of helpful practical strategies to support children/people with coordination challenges in keeping with DCD/Dyspraxia.
Rosaline Van de Weyer is an occupational Therapist who has experience working in both the NHS and educational settings with people of all ages, with DCD and overlapping neurodivergent conditions. Rosaline has provided assessment and supportive interventions for people with DCD since 2013 and is the Director of Dyspraxia UK. This is a specialist Occupational Therapy assessment service as well as a training provider. In addition to working with people with DCD, Rosaline is a senior lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University, teaching on the MSc. and Apprenticeship Occupational Therapy programmes.
