We have 800+ students between the ages of 3 months and 18 years are registered here (day students and boarders from age 11+). Children are recognised as individuals with unique skills to celebrate and given tailored support and guidance at Teaching Role each stage of their school career. Our structure of Early Learning School, Junior School, Middle School and Senior School means that every year group works with professionals who specialize and enjoy working with the students in their care.

The unique Reddam House philosophy and our formula for success are based to a large degree on the quality and depth of our curricula, cultural and sporting activities and especially our teaching staff, fully recognising that what goes on in the classroom between teacher and student strongly influences the success of the school.

ROLE SUMMARY & JOB PURPOSE

Reddam House, Berkshire are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated SENDco and Lead of Academic Support for Middle and Senior School to encourage all students to make progress no matter their ability.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities regarding pupils with SEND, including reporting information for the census, inspections and ensuring the SEND Register is up-to-date and communicated to the relevant parents.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Testing/administering applications for Access Arrangements leading to the examination years in Middle and Senior School and working with the Exams’ Officer to ensure these run smoothly during both internal tests/exams and external examinations; Ensuring all staff understand and deliver the Access Arrangements for each relevant child, reporting back on any difficulties.
  • Support all staff in understanding the needs of SEND pupils; those requiring additional support/those requiring extension to achieve their potential and those who require further pastoral support through monitoring and training, for example, at INSETs. Provide bespoke advice on how to support individual students with SEN.
  • Provide a process and deliver support for students suspected of showing signs of difficulties of an SEN nature.
  • Assist parents in understanding the needs of their children and signpost/support for diagnosis, as required, whether privately or via the NHS route.
  • Manage any SEN budget effectively and efficiently for Middle and Senior School.
  • Monitoring and intervening to ensure sound learning and discipline for students with SEN throughout the Middle and Senior School.
  • Assist the Admission’s team in identifying students’ suitability for the school, both in group testing and in individual admission queries.
  • To monitor the teaching of Academic Support teachers to encourage students to achieve progression of learning through:
  • Identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed;
  • Setting tasks which are both multi-sensory and achievable to build confidence and consolidate learning;
  • Challenging pupils and ensuring high levels of interest;
  • Liaising with other academic support teachers, class teachers and other professionals (eg SLT or external agencies);
  • Reviewing progress and reporting on it, in line with school policies.
  • Have responsibility for approving peripatetic staff invoices and ensuring that they are with Finance at the correct time.
  • Liaising with staff about key dates and updates that will impact their teaching time.
  • Ensuring that all staff are up to date with the correct safeguarding training, as specified by DSL.
  • Arrange a suitable timetable for each member of the Academic Support team to teach allocated pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Set up and monitor the reporting tools shared with parents.
  • Keep track of Academic Support charges..
  • Recruit suitably qualified professionals to join the AS team, as required.

  • Attending INSET days as required.
  • To observe all Health and Safety requirements to maintain a safe environment for students, colleagues and parents.
